A look at some of the underrated quarterbacks from day one of the Brent Key Corky Kell + Dave Hunter classic 7-on-7 tournament

Day one of the Brent Key Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic 7-on-7 Tournament will see a handful of underrated players help their teams compete for the championship. No position exemplifies that more than the quarterback position. While day one may not have the well-known names, some of the latter days will have day two has players who will make a major impact at both the high school and college levels.

Ryan Hall, North Gwinnett

Hall is heading into his third year starting for the Bulldogs. He is coming off an elite 2023 season that saw him pass for 2,178 yards and 25 touchdowns. Along with his contributions in the passing game, he added 723 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground. With that dominant season, Hall was named Region 7-7A Offensive Player of the Year, helping North Gwinnett to a second-round playoff berth and a three-way tie for first place in the region. Hall looks to have an even bigger senior season. On the recruiting trail, he recently received his first offer from Murray State, the first of what is expected to be many Division-I offers. Hall will be expected to make big throws at the event as North Gwinnett vies for the day one championship.

Jamarcus Harrison, East Hall

Harrison is one of Northeast Georgia’s best-kept secrets. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound quarterback is heading into his third year starting for the Vikings. He passed for nearly 1,500 yards and rushed for over 600 yards as a sophomore. While East Hall did not have a great season in 2023, it did not hamper Harrison, who was named first-team All-Region QB. With another year under his belt, Harrison should be even better in 2024. His decision-making, accuracy, and awareness will be tested at the event as he acts as a traditional pocket-passing quarterback.

Smith McGarvey, North Hall

The 2026 QB is spending his first season with the Trojans. McGarvey spent his freshman and sophomore seasons with Gainesville, backing up Baxter Wright. After the 2023 season, McGarvey transferred to North Hall. The 6-2, 180-pound quarterback is expected to have a big junior season. McGarvey is joining a Trojan program looking to take the next step under third-year head coach Sean Pender after going 7-4 in 2023. McGarvey looks to start off the summer strong at the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic 7-on-7 Tournament.

Elijah Seaney, North Forsyth

North Forsyth’s rising senior QB, Elijah Seaney, is looking to build off a good junior season. Seaney threw for over 1,700 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2023 while adding 233 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. He led the Raiders to a 5-6 record, making the playoffs for the second straight year and having their fifth straight .500 or better regular season. The 6-1, 180-pound quarterback will have extreme continuity with his weapons, returning both of his top pass catchers and his top three running backs, a group that is expected to have another big season in 2024 starting off with the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic 7-on-7 Tournament.

Elliot Sturbaum, McIntosh

2025 quarterback Elliot Sturbaum is coming off a big season, throwing for 2,583 yards, which finished in the top 20 in the state regardless of classification. Along with his contributions through the air, he added 480 rushing yards, accounting for 25 total touchdowns. Sturbaum led the Chiefs to a 6-5 record in 2023, a record that is tied for the second-best in school history, and making the playoffs for consecutive years for the first time ever. Sturbaum will be a name to watch on the fourth as he and McIntosh face off against some of the best teams in the state. His dynamic passing, along with star tight end Hollis Davidson, will lead an Indians’ offense expected to have a big tournament and an even bigger season.
