Florida’s Norland takes title at Day 3 of Brent Key/Corky Kell + Dave Hunter 7-on-7

The third day of the Brent Key/Corky Kell + Dave Hunter 7-0n-7 tournament highlighted talent from around the state at three host locations on Georgia Tech’s campus, Brock Indoor, the Rose Bowl and historic Bobby Dodd Stadium. And after a rout of the entire field — capped with a 36-2 victory over Creekside in the championship — Florida’s Norland won the championship.

“It means alot, this is the beginning of our season. It sets the foundation,” said Norland offensive line coach Bernard Poole. “We are just trying to figure out things we did last year during our state run.”

Norland, located in Miami, is a long trek from historic Bobby Dodd Stadium and so the Vikings figured they’d visit, win every game, and walk away with the title. Norland opened the day with pool play victories over Mill Creek 30-6. Walton #1 31-16, Walton #2 25-24 and Marietta 32-12. In the afternoon’s bracket rounds, Norland defeated Alpharetta 32-2 and Heard County 34-2 to advance to the championship bracket. The Vikings beat Mill Creek 20-12, Buford 23-13 and Creekside to take the title.

“We are headed to Wofford after this and Georgia State next and then we are hitting the Carolinas,” Poole said.

Creekside’s path to the title began in pool play where it lost to Buford 36-2 but then beat Walton #2 30-10, Hebron 26-6 and Westlake 38-12. In the afternoon’s bracket play, the Seminoles defeated New Manchester 27-21 and Denmark 25-0 to advance to the championship. In the final bracket, Creekside defeated Houston County 21-15 and North Oconee 24-21 before falling to Norland.

One of the most Underrated QBs in the state Ben Brown is putting on a clinic. Brown went through four progressions on the first TD pass and still threw a dot without getting a sack.
